September 3^rd of 2011 was the registration date for new enrollees in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). On this occasion, this more than one hundred-year-old University welcomed another new batch of students who are full of vigor and vitality.

With students in mind, teachers take the trouble

Early in the morning, the New Gymnasium was already full of hustle and bustle. By half past six, still one hour before the arrival of new enrollees, the registration booth of SEIEE had already been fully prepared only for the newcomers. Ms Lin Ling, a teacher responsible for newcomer enrollment, expressed her personal preference to make on-site preparation beforehand in the hope of providing students and their parents with accurate and effective help. Speaking of teachers’ expectations on freshmen, Ms Hu Yanli who travelled with Ms Lin added that “As long as students could live a peaceful, healthy, smooth and meaningfully rich life over the four school years, the teachers thereby get the best reward.”

Caring greetings, melting smile and sincere care— teachers are no doubt the most respectful in SEIEE.

With everything ready, seniors pass on SEIEE spirit

Besides the student-oriented teachers, SEIEE volunteers also made an early preparation, fully ready to help newcomers complete their registration processes. The School offered a special, all-inclusive service to newcomers and their parents; some volunteers shuttled around every corner in front of the Gymnasium, some held high the SEIEE flag to lead the way for newcomers, some sat in the booth to answer questions raised by newcomers, and others rode a tricycle to help carry baggage for newcomers. Guo Zeyu, leader of SEIEE student volunteers, recalled that “One year ago when I was a freshman, senior students gave me a hand this way, and thus one year later, I stiffen my determination to serve my junior fellows in return for SJTU. I hope such quality of ‘enjoying help others’ would be passed on and on.”

Diligent sweat, busy figures, and memorable smile appeared everywhere, both inside and outside the Gymnasium— volunteers are no doubt the loveliest in SEIEE.

With high aspiration, freshmen endowed with ambition

Six forty saw the first arrival named Tang Qi, who was of medium build, wore black-framed glasses and a beige T-shirt. He revealed his shy smile at sight of the present teachers and volunteers; while speaking of his impression on SJTU, the boy, with a flicker of passion in his eyes, could hardly hide his excitement, saying “It is very exciting to be enrolled in SJTU! I am sure to grasp this opportunity to give full play to my talents!”

One after another, in the company of parents and with baggage dragged behind, new enrollees delightfully set foot on the SJTU campus, where they are going to spend four years’ university life. When asked about their expectations on the future, every freshman, all with one voice, expressed their wishes to present themselves and to play their youth to the fullest on the gorgeous stage of SJTU; not just elites in academia, but more importantly to become comprehensively developed pillars of the state.

Tender faces, innocent smile and confidence in the eyes— the newcomers are to be, in the future, the most dazzling and eye-catching stars of SEIEE.

Today witnessed the first perfect date between the freshmen of 2011 and SJTU. For every single new enrollee, today marked the starting point of another stage of their life; and for whoever present, today would also be a meaningfully unforgettable day.
