SJTU ACM Class students Huzhang Guangda (sophomore, SEIEE), Liu Yan (sophomore, SEIEE) and Liu Qi (sophomore, Zhiyuan College) won the gold medal in the World Finals Competition of the 36th ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest in the University of Warsaw on May 17, 2012.

 

SJTU Team, named Epic, though suffering a poor start, remained calm, dared to strive and finally ranked fourth among all the teams, first among all the Asian university teams and got the gold medal, which is the fourth time for SJTU to win such an honor. St. Petersburg State University of IT, Mechanics and Optics won the championship and became the very first "Quadruple" of this international contest.

 

 

As reported, the 36th ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest issued for the first time 2012 Coach Awards for 15 or more years bringing teams to the World Finals. Prof. Yu Yong of SEIEE won the award for bringing SJTU team to the Finals from 1996 to the present (except 1999) and the world finals for three times.

 

The 112 teams entering the World Finals Competition are selected by preliminaries in 6 continents from 2219 universities in 85 countries. They include world-class universities such as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Princeton University and 16 Chinese universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University and Sun Yat-sen University.
