SEIEE of SJTU successfully held its orientation session for Class 2015 Foreign Graduate Students on 15th Sep at Room 3-200, SEIEE Building. MaYixin, Assistant to the Dean in charge of international affairs and cooperation, Ma Jun, in charge of the international graduate students’ administration in the Office of Graduate Study, and approximately 60 foreign graduate students attended the orientation.

Associate Professor Ma Yixin began the event by giving a general introduction to the foreign graduate program and proceeded to welcome all new foreign students.  She hoped they will all learn and obtain new knowledge, develop and exert their own abilities, and realize and live out their own values.

Afterwards, Teacher Ma Jun answered questions pertaining to the graduate education and invited one foreign student to present a demonstration on the course selection process.

Teacher Liu Miao then introduced the management model which is called the Academic Adviser-Guidance Counselor-Class Contact. She explained that the school has decided to add the “Class Contact” position whose main task is to be in charge of student contacts. In addition, the school also set up an International Student WeChat Group in order for SEIEE to manage them as a whole, and help new students blend in and adjust to campus life in China.

Teacher Li Shuyi, in charge of computer science department’s education management, also gave answers to all academic questions. Qin Shengwei from Class A1503391 shared about student life in SJTU including the information of school calendar, map, school bus, school all-in-one card, life center, and the like.

After the orientation, all graduates were given souvenir shirts. Class Contacts meet with their own classmates, to exchange mobile numbers and introduce general information to them.

The objective for the orientation is to help foreign students adjust to the new campus life and to reform and renew the “assimilation management" initiated by SEIEE.
