Supervisors take full responsibility for the daily trainings and education of master’s students, including:

1. instructing master’s students to formulate individual study plans;
2. urging master’s students to attend classes and to complete studying tasks;
3. checking how the study and research plans are implemented and putting forward specific opinions;
4. cultivating in master’s students morally excellent characters and manners as well as good studying habits;
5. directing and checking the thesis writing of master’s students;
6. putting forward dropout advice for those failing to meet the training requirement.

Graduation Requirements for Master Students

研究生毕业要求

 International Master students need to complete three parts to qualify graduation.

  1)  Finish the study plan and complete credits >28, and GPA≥2.0

  2)  Publication 

  3) Pass thesis Defense

Graduation Requirements for Doctor Students

博士生毕业要求

International Ph.D. students need to complete three parts to qualify graduation.

     1)  Finish the study plan and complete credits >16, and GPA≥2.0

     2)  Published academic paper

     3) Pass dissertation Defense

Cultivation Plan

培养方案

Each discipline has its own Cultivation Plan that regulates: cultivation target, research direction, length and credits, all available courses, midterm assessment requirement, proposal requirement, and degree thesis/dissertation requirement.

Study Plan

培养计划

One of the three parts for graduate students graduation requirements. Each student would make a study plan of when and what courses he/she would take.

Degree courses

学位课

The conception only valid for master students. It means degree related courses with its total credits more than 19. Degree courses grades would be calculated for GPA. Normally course number starting with X means degree courses, G means general courses, F means non-degree courses, S means seminar courses.

Non-degree courses

非学位课

The conception only valid for master students. It means courses not close related courses. Non-degree courses grades would NOT be calculated for GPA.

Only valid for master students. Only by passing this step could student start proposal.

Only valid for Ph.D. students. Only by passing this step could student start proposal.

Publication

One of the three parts for graduate students graduation requirements. All master students need to publish academic paper before graduation. Please consult academic coordinator or supervisor for more details.

Conference Subsidy

会议资助

The foundation would support RMB 2400 to students who would go to conference inside Asia, and RMB 3600 to student who would go outside of Asia

Shanghai Anonymous Review

盲审(通讯评议)

Held by Shanghai Municipal Education Committee. The thesis or dissertation would be sent to experts in anonymous form. Experts would give feedback that includes comments and result(pass or not).

Whether the master student’s thesis would be sent for anonymous review is a probability event, so students need to draw lots.

All Ph.D. students need forced anonymous review.

Held by SJTU and all graduate student in SJTU need to join.

Leaving School System

离校系统

Students need check out from SJTU by Leaving School System checklist.

Graduation Certificate

毕业证书

One of the two certificate graduates would receive. Must finish Leaving School System check out to receive this certificate.

Degree Certificate

学位证书

One of the two certificate graduates would receive.

Schooling  Length

学制

Master:  Normally it would be 2-3 years while for most students 2.5 years. 4 years would be the longest.

Doctor:  Normally it would be 3-5 years. 6 years would be the longest.

Student Identification

学籍

Status that showing one is SJTU students.

Students need to register on the first day of each semester to get student identification

Any changes to student identification, like schooling suspension and resumption, postponed graduation, early graduation, and such needs application.

Studying Certificate

在读证明

A certificate to confirm you are SJTU student. In Chinese only.

Schooling Suspension

休学

Students who would leave school for more than two months would need to apply.

Schooling Suspension Resumption

休学后复学

Students who suspend schooling need to apply for resumption to get student identification back.

Postponed Graduation

延期毕业

Master students who could not graduate in 2.5 years, Ph.D. students who could not graduate in 4 years, need to apply for postponed graduation.

Early Graduation

提前毕业

Master students who graduate less than 2.5 years, Ph.D. students who graduate less than4 years, need to apply for early graduation.
