Abstract of presentation:
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is a core agency to support basic researches in a full range of academic areas. It covers a variety of programs as shown below:
(1) Research funding at various levels (Grant-in-aid “KAKENHI”, Leading-Edge Program, etc.)
(2) Nurturing next generation researchers (Fellowships for research stay abroad)
(3) Support for globalization of university research/education (Global COE Program, etc.)
(4) International collaborations and fellowships (Joint research/seminar, fellowships, etc.)

Biography of presenter:
Osamu Wada received BE degree in 1969 and ME degree in 1971 in Japan and Ph.D. degree in 1980 in UK. He worked for Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. for 25 years, FESTA research consortium for 5 years, and Kobe University for 9 years, all in Japan, in the field of semiconductors and photonics science and technology particularly for the application to optical communication/interconnection. He has oversea research stay experiences at Sheffield University, UK (1976-78 and 2011-12) and National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan (2011). He is a Fellow of IEEE, OSA, JSAP and IEICE. He is the Director of JSPS Beijing Office since 2012. He is also Visiting Professor at Kobe University, Kobe, Japan.
